Lakeside Spin: http://www.youtube.com/user/vgpacer1970 ooooops, only 3 days to have it back on the transporter for the Hidden Valley, Darwin round!
Thursday 18th June 2009:
We arrive at the track and spend the majority of the day setting the car and pit area up for the next couple of days, which we were sure would test us out the very limits. This would turn out to be the understatement of the year!
Friday 19th June 2009:
We had taken advice from a couple of guys who had run their cars here on the track at Hidden Valley in the past, being new to this circuit I thought I had done my homework getting any information on the car set up, track etc. Rule 1 - TRUST NOBODY! Anyway we had already set the diff up with 4.3's (under advice) but soon found out during practice we should have opted for 3.5's. A hastey diff ratio change was completed using 3.23's as we had left the 3.5's at home.
Saturday 20th June 2009:
Qualifying was way off pace as the diff ratio was still wrong.
Race 1: It was a real thrill for me, as this was as fast and unpredictable as they come, a long way from home and up in the Top End. The car still performed well with the wrong diff ratio and we finished in a respectable 15th out of 27 cars. As I reversed into the pit garage my foot slips off the clutch pedal and,,,,,BANG, good night the Jericho gearbox! I was lucky enough to be able to borrow one from another competetor and we worked frantically to replace it for the next race tomorrow morning.
Sunday 21st June 2009:
Race 2: It's Sunday morning and we were full of high hope and great spirits (no, not the alcohol type) Well, i would like to say that the rest of the day was to be smooth and easy going but this would be far from the truth. The borrowed gearbox had way too high a gear set for our car, I mean that I had to virtually slip the clutch at around 5000 RPM to get it off the line and it wouldn't allow for any decent corner exit speed. By the time Race 2 was over, so was the clutch. Guess what we did for the next few couple of hours,,,,,,,,,,,, yep, new clutch.
Race3: Even with the borrowed gearbox still fitted we ended up in 13th postion, couldn't help think what the outcome may have been if all had gone to plan from the start, oh well, theres always next time.

Thursday 20th August 2009:
We were awaiting a shipment from the States which included our new rear rotors, they turned up a week later. We adapted some Willwood Race rotors to get us by, seemed to fit and work quite well in the shed!
Friday 21st August 2009:
We attended Queenland Raceway on th Friday with hopes that we might fair a little better this round as we were on home turf,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yeah right! Practice 1 saw us putting down some decent lap times but I still thought the diff ratio needed to be at 4.1 instead of the 3.9's we were currently running. So a snappy diff change to the 4.1's saw Practice 2 setting down even better lap times, brakes appeared to be adequate but sometimes appearances can be deceiving.
Saturday 22nd August 2009:
Qualifying saw us put the Charger into 11th position on the start line,,,,,,,,Woo Hoo!
Race1. The car launched off out of P11 and I instantly passed 3 cars within 100 metres, then nothing, carby had litterally ran out of fuel, got started and finished the race. So back to the garage and frantically call the dyno guy and get the run down on what to do to ensure it doesn't happen again. All done.
Sunday 23rd August 2009:
Race2. Started in 18th moved through the field to position 13 and was quite hopefull until I began to experience brake fade. We had to take a lot of bias off the rear brakes and therefore putting more braking onto the front which caused a huge amount of heat generation, making the whole show inaffective in the brakes department. I speered off the back straight at around 130 MPH, hit the kitty litter and was fortunate enough to keep the old girl moving (albiet 2 KPH) and rejoined the race but had lost too many spots and came in at last position (or at the wrong end of the field as I like to say!)
Race3: Can only get better so they say, and it did. Even without any brakes to speak of I still managed to come home in 13th position.
Well we lived to fight another day, no panel damage and the engine running as strong and reliable as ever,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just need to fix them damn brakes!
